Online advocacy curriculum now available for special education

Determining and implementing the services a student with disabilities needs at school can be overwhelming and confusing. It is not always easy for students and parents to advocate on their own for appropriate educational services, so many families seek help from a special education advocate.

The Arc@School was created in 2016 to help families and professionals navigate the special education system. Targeting families, educators and advocates, The Arc@School’s Advocacy Curriculum is designed to help families better understand the special education process and serve as a valuable resource for other disability groups and educators.

Through online, self-paced training, you get the basic information needed to navigate the special education system, including:

  • Introduction to IDEA and early intervention services
  • Building a foundation for advocacy
  • Anatomy of an individualized education program (IEP)
  • Procedural safeguards available for parents
  • Section 504 – what is it and who qualifies?
